The Best Cafés for Matcha in Paris

After living in Paris for over two years now, I’ve been around the block a few times trying out numerous cafés. Though I feel like I’ve been to all of them, I can assure you that you could spend a life time discovering new cafés here since Paris is so big!

That being said, I’ve had my fair share of matchas. And as an avid matcha drinker, I’ve come to know the best cafés, and the worst, to have a matcha latte in Paris.

In this blog, we’ll focus on the positive and go through my favorite spots in the city for a quality matcha!

At a glance:

1. Terrah Coffee Shop & Roasters
2. Fauna
3. Mara Café

4. Seasons Marais
5. Noir
6. Kafeibaie
7. Fringe
8.
Two Doors Coffee Shop

Despite having tried probably over 40 cafés with matcha, I can only confidently recommend these 8 spots, as a few of my original favorite spots unfortunately have closed since living here, and some others have changed in quality.

I am constantly on the search for good matcha, so be sure to save this blog on Pinterest as I will be coming back regularly and updating it!

Feel free to leave a comment below with your favorite spots so I can go check them out!

1. Terrah Coffee Shop & Roasters

Address : 26 Rue Oberkampf, 75011 Paris
Also good for : coffee with friends, avocado toasts, cakes

Matcha latte – Terrah

Right near the metro stop Oberkampf on line 9 and 5 you’ll find Terrah Coffee Shop & Roasters, which might just be my favorite café in all of Paris. A recent discovery for me, but it instantly became a coup de cœur because of how cozy it is inside and how friendly the people are, let alone the matcha.

This place has my favorite matcha in all of Paris because even though I take it with oat milk, the latte is not at all grainy and still quite smooth and foamy, which I find hard to come by. The quality and taste of the matcha they use is also top, not at all sweetened or too bitter, it’s just right in my opinion.

I’ve come here many times at this point, and I can confidently say that their quality remains very consistent!

They have 3 versions of matcha here : the normal, ceremonial, and an iced mango-coco matcha. I have only tried the normal, but I plan on trying the other two when I go back! One of my friends had tried the iced mango-coco matcha and said it was super good, so I am excited to try it next time.

2. Fauna

Address : 12 Rue Oberkampf, 75011 Paris
Also good for : Swedish specialties!

Fauna is a Swedish café located in the Marais in Paris, meaning that it’s perfectly located near lots of other great cafés and cute boutiques! I’d had this café on my list to try for nearly two years and I finally made a visit recently.

I came just for an afternoon coffee with a friend, so didn’t get to try any of their food, but everything seems to be made in house! You can even watch them stretch out the dough for their homemade cinnamon and cardamom rolls.

Their matcha was super smooth and not bitter at all. Honestly it was a perfect balance between the matcha and oat milk. Especially on the wintery afternoon that it was, this was the perfect cozy drink to warm me up.

I definitely plan to come back to try their cinnamon rolls and maybe even the classic Swedish breakfast.

This spot is quite popular, so do plan to wait especially if you visit on the weekend.

3. MARA Café

Address : 23 Rue de la Folie Méricourt, 75011 Paris
Also good for : Brunch throughout the week + on weekends

Matcha fraise – MARA Café

While MARA Café is probably more sought out for their brunches, I come here specifically for their matcha. I tested out this café as it was a 15 minute walk from my place and I was looking for a spot where I could be on my computer at the same time, to get out a bit from my apartment.

What initially drew me in was their variety of options for matcha. They offer the classic, white chocolate, vanilla, honey, passion fruit, and matcha of the moment. I went for the matcha of the moment, which was strawberry at the time, and was immediately taken aback with how good it was.

The matcha was super smooth, and had the perfect amount of strawberry syrup (or purée?) so that it wasn’t too sweet. I normally order my matcha with oat milk, and found that it still was almost creamy but with no dairy, and not grainy.

This café took me by surprise, and easily made my list of the best cafés for matcha.

4. Seasons Marais

Address :  Rue Charles-François Dupuis, 75003 Paris

Also good for : Brunch – the breakfast pancakes are phenomenal

I discovered Seasons in the Marais for the first time recently after running a 10k in Paris when we came to celebrate for brunch with some friends afterwards. One of my friends suggested it since it was her favorite spot, and I was surprised that I’d never heard of it before!

I wasn’t originally going to have a matcha, I was really looking forward to just a good brunch meal, but decided to treat myself to a matcha when I saw all of the options they had! I did just run 6 miles, I figured I could splurge this time.

They had matcha options with white chocolate, rose, lavender, and even pistachio! I decided to go with the rose matcha with oat milk, and the flavor and texture of the matcha was spot on. The size of the matcha was a bit small, especially for the price I do have to say. But other than that, I highly recommend this spot for brunch and specialty coffees!

5. Noir

Address : many throughout Paris! My favorite is at 120 Bd Haussmann, 75008 Paris
Also good for : High quality coffee, good vibes

Matcha & chai latte – Noir

It’s hard to make a list of the best cafés in Paris and not mention Noir. Noir is known for their high quality coffees, but their chai and matchas are also up there in calibre.

Their cafés are typically quite small, offering a small area to sit depending on which Noir you are at, and have a very elegant yet modern feel inside. This is a great place to come with friends to chat over a matcha or coffee, or even take it to-go.

Their prices are more expensive here because they use high quality products and ingredients, but it is definitely worth it.

6. Kafeibaie

Address : 5 Rue Blondel, 75003 Paris
Also good for : Lunches with friends, working or studying during the week

An iced mango latte with mango purée on the bottom, oat milk as the middle layer, and topped with matcha at a café in Paris.
Mango twist iced latte – Kafeibaie

Kafeibaie was another surprise for me, as I was originally looking for a place to take my laptop when I was applying for masters programs and alternances in Paris. This is a great spot for lunch or if you need to work or study during the week, and the people who work here are super friendly!

What I loved about their matcha was the quality of the iced version that they had. It was super smooth, and they served it with the matcha poured on top of the milk, allowing us to mix it in. This also made their presentation that much prettier.

They have seasonal drink specials, and my favorite one has been the mango twist. The mango purée tasted super fresh and not artificial, and was the perfect balance with the matcha!

7. Fringe

Address : 106 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris
Also good for : chai latte, coffee, pastries

Matcha latte – Fringe Café

Fringe is a favorite café of mine for many reasons. I love the blend of photography with coffee which gives the café a comforting feeling and the perfect place to sit and chat with friends in the Marais. They also have one of the best iced chai lattes I’ve had in Paris, which gives it a few more bonus points.

Their matcha latte also ranks quite high for me because they do a great job whisking and preparing it, which can make all the difference. Couple this with the cozy ambiance they have, and you’ll want to keep coming back!

8. Two Doors Coffee Shop

Address : 27 Rue Francœur, 75018 Paris
Also good for : pastries, coffee with friends

Rose matcha latte – Two Doors

Two Doors Coffee Shop in Montmartre made my list as it was the first time I’d seen a rose matcha latte anywhere! I had visited on a super cold and wintery day with a friend, and this matcha warmed us right up, along with the comfort of being in the warm café.

Their also really well known for their pastries and sandwiches here, so I can’t wait to come back for another rose matcha and try more of their specialties!

That wraps up my list of the top cafés in Paris for a matcha latte!
