Summer Day Trip Idea: Wickham Farms in Western New York

Sunflower season is approaching! In New York, sunflowers seem to be in bloom between August and early September. If you’re looking for a fun place for the family or an outing with your friends, then you need to check out Wickham Farms! You won’t be disappointed! Wickham Farms is located in Penfield, NY, just east of Rochester.

At Wickham Farms, each year they host a “Sunflower Spectacular” with so many fun things to do! My friends and I purchased the “Sunflower Ultimate Fun Pass” for $38, since all of their activities sounded like so much fun and we wanted to try them all! I believe this is a reasonable price for how long we stayed and how much fun we had! This is definitely an all day adventure :)

When we arrived, my friends and I couldn’t decide on what we wanted to do first, there were so many activities to choose from! We decided to start off with the apple cannons where we shot apples at targets made out of hay bales! It was a lot of fun, and I’d say I was pretty good at it. Afterwards, we hopped on the hayride which took us to a corn maze. The maze was actually pretty difficult, and it was so hot outside that I wanted nothing more than to find the exit. Once we finally found our way out, we headed to see the main attraction, the sunflowers!

They had a bunch of different types of sunflowers which was really neat. They ranged from skinnier sunflowers that were about four feet tall to larger sunflowers that were about 15-20 feet tall to burnt orange sunflowers! Naturally, my friends and I took pictures in front of all of them. We also picked some to bring home! I believe we had to pay for the flowers we picked but it wasn’t expensive.

According to their website, they will be planting 25 different types of sunflowers for this season!

Once we picked as many sunflowers as our heart desired, we headed to our next activity across the street! Across from the sunflower field, still apart of Wickham Farms, was a giant inflatable jumpy thing, a batting cage, mini golf, and a cute little shop. We did the batting cage first, which was super fun. I mean I was terrible, and maybe hit one ball, but it was still a good time. Next we got something to eat at the shop (I can’ remember what I got lol). Then we went to the inflatable jumpy thing. I think my friends and I were the oldest ones jumping but that didn’t stop us from having fun! Finally, we played a round of mini golf, and then headed back home!

Wickham Farms is a great idea for a warm summer day, or even into the fall! & there are numerous photo opportunities for you to keep the ‘gram up to date :) The Sunflower Spectacular will run August 15th – September 7th this year, you don’t want to miss out on this great event!
