Day Trip to Conklin Gully in Naples, NY

If you’re looking for a place to hike and see a waterfall, this is the spot for you! My dad and I drove up the first weekend in May, yet we STILL drove through a blizzard on the way back!

Once you park your car and head towards the trails, you will encounter two trails. The one on the right will take you up the mountain and the one on the left will guide you upstream towards the waterfall. My dad and I decided to take the right trail first, since there was a family ahead of us that also took that trail first. We didn’t know what we’d encounter on either trail before the start of our hike so we were just going with the flow. It’s a good thing we took the right trail first because it was a pretty difficult hike, and my dad and I both agreed we wouldn’t have wanted to hike it after the waterfall haha.

We weren’t really expecting the hike to kick our ass, even though it’s rated as difficult on All Trails. It was a great hike nonetheless! On our hike up, there was a place to camp out if you wanted, and also a fireplace built! The fireplace was pretty top notch if I say so myself. There was also a spot to store your food so the bears don’t get to it, but (un)fortunately we didn’t encounter any bears.

I knew going into the hike that there would be a look out point eventually, but it took us (unknowingly) taking a different path on the way down to find it. I can only imagine how pretty it is when the sky is blue!

After we finished exploring the mountain, we took a little break to have lunch, which consisted of a Kind bar and an apple. We’re always super prepared with snacks ;)

Following our lunch break, we decided to find what we came here for, waterfalls! I’m super glad I was wearing my Hunter Boots for this day. Not only did it help keep my legs warm during my hike, but I was able to walk carelessly upstream without worrying about stepping in too deep of water. My dad, on the other hand, was wearing duck boots so he had to be more careful. Despite our differences in footwear, we were both able to make it to the beginning of the waterfall! This trail was a lot easier than the hike up the mountain. It was a lot of fun navigating our way upstream, we were jumping on top of logs and limbo-ing underneath them to make it through! Below is a picture of the waterfall at the end!

You can hike all the way to the top of the waterfall, past the point showed in the picture above. I didn’t, however, because I didn’t think I’d be able to make it back down without busting my ass haha. There were people (and some dogs) that explored the top of the falls!

Overall, this is a great spot to do some hiking and explore some waterfalls! Here is the location of the parking lot, located in Naples, NY : 42.635, -77.367.

Apparently my friends and I actually came here last year and I didn’t even realize it until writing this post. When I went to Google Photos to download pictures, I typed in “Conklin Gully” to find them quickly, and I had results from my most recent excursion there and also from last year! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize it while I was there this year hahaha. My friends and I tried to find the waterfall, but we took the trail on the right instead of the left and didn’t find it. I’m not sure why we didn’t take the left trail afterwards but oh well hahaha. Below is a picture of the trees all in bloom!
