Incredible Sunset Views from Papago Park’s Hole in the Rock in Phoenix, Arizona

The conclusion to the Sun Saga!

This wasn’t even apart of our original plan during the weekend my friends and I climbed “A” Mountain for the sunset, followed by Camelback for the sunrise! On Rita and I’s way back to campus from climbing Camelback, our Uber driver mentioned how Hole in the Rock is a great spot to watch the sunset. As soon as he said that, Rita and I looked at each other and said “alright I guess we’re going to Hole in the Rock to watch the sunset”!

When we got back to campus (maybe around 8am) we went to the dining hall to get breakfast and we were basically the only ones eating! We discovered that there was an omelette station, and the omelettes were 10/10 amazing. The breakfast at the dining hall was the only good meal they served, in my opinion. Getting up to eat omelettes before they closed the station became a weekend tradition for us. While we were eating, were trying to figure out who should go with us to Hole in the Rock to watch the sunset, when Rita said how she’s been wanting to hang with her window neighbors! (Her window neighbors were the people who lived across the courtyard and had their window facing hers.) I didn’t know them at the time but I said why not!

We all piled in the Uber later that day and headed to Hole in the Rock! Hole in the Rock, also called Papago Park, is located right next to the Phoenix Zoo and is about a 13 minute drive from my campus.

It’s a super short hike to get to the hole, less than a mile, but that doesn’t take away from how pretty this place is. It’s called Hole in the Rock because it is literally a hole. In a rock. I didn’t happen to take a picture of the view through the hole, but it’s a classic viewpoint!

We could’ve just sat in the hole to watch the sunset but Rita’s window neighbors didn’t want to settle so we climbed to the top of the rock! This was a little difficult since we were basically scaling a giant rock but we made it. The view from the top was so pretty. To the left you’ll see us chilling at the top! I love this picture because it captures the background perfectly! And, in the background you can see Camelback Mountain!

Hole in the Rock is definitely a must-visit spot to watch the sunset over the Phoenix skyline in Arizona!
