Where to Watch the Sunset in Syracuse, New York

This sunset spot is found in between Gannon’s Ice Cream and the Carrier Dome, and not many people know about it! My friends and I literally discovered it on the way to get ice cream one night so it is very much on the low.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing how I found this sunset spot and how you can find it too!

A few weeks ago, my friends Ally, Renee and I were planning on driving to Skaneateles, New York to walk around town and watch the sunset. However, we were running a little late, and since we didn’t want to feel rushed when shopping in town, we decided to stay nearby for the sunset.

Instead, decided to get ice cream from the BEST place in Syracuse, New York : Gannon’s Ice Cream. It is simply the best because all of their ice cream is homemade (yes, their hard ice cream is homemade too) and they have so many options!

The last time I had been to Gannon’s Ice Cream had been the day before I moved to Arizona for college! It was a bitter sweet time with my friends (emphasis on the sweet).

I ordered the Oreo Earthquake Sundae, and paired it with their Parent Trap ice cream! The person taking my order suggested this combo, and it was DELISH. The Parent Trap is a seasonal flavor they offer, which is a peanut butter ice cream with Oreo’s mixed in – YUM!

I remember Ally had ordered the Oreo Earthquake with mint ice cream the day before I left for college, and she happened to get it again this time, so I knew I had to try it. But it was NOT this big last time, it was only half this size! I swear the sundae weighed between 5 and 10 pounds, and I am not exaggerating. Nevertheless, I still finished it.

We still wanted to watch the sunset that night, but we weren’t exactly sure where to go. We didn’t want to go by the lake near our houses, simply because we would have seen everyone from high school there. We figured we’d go to Onondaga Lake after we got ice cream if we didn’t come across anything.

However, when we exited the highway on our way to Gannon’s Ice Cream, I had spotted a great view of the city of Syracuse behind a little strip of businesses. I pointed it out to my friends and said we should come back here and check out the sunset! And so that we did!

When we parked and walked behind the businesses, I was literally in awe. We could see ALL of Syracuse! I started running and jumping because I was literally so excited that we had found this spot – IT’S SUCH A GEM!!!!

This spot is definitely not know by many people. In fact, a lady had walked up while we were watching the sunset, asking if this was “our spot”! She said she comes here all the time to watch the sunset and has never seen anyone before.

Watching the sunset over Syracuse was a really neat thing to do. I have never seen a view nearly this good, in all of Syracuse. I 1000% recommend grabbing ice cream at Gannon’s and then heading over here for a super relaxing summer night!!
